Dear AAKF Members,

The AAKF Mid Atlantic Region welcomes you to the AAKF 60th National Championships and International Camp to be held in the City of Herndon, Virginia from June 21st to June 24th 2023.

These events mark a special occasion to renew our friendships, please join us to celebrate our community's longstanding tradition of budo, and to personally experience the top caliber traditional karate competition and camp.

The 60th AAKF National Championships will feature individual and team competition categories, alongside the ever-thriving Junior National Championship. This will be the 8th year that an adjoining International Camp (Wednesday, June 21st to Friday, June 23rd) will be held in conjunction with the Championships (Friday, June 23rd & Saturday, June 24th). Friday Camp and Seminar may be combined in the afternoon with the National Elimination if there are more than expected competitors.

Please refer to the Information Packet, the Athlete and Judges Registration Package, and the Regional Director's Packet. All ranks are invited to train and compete. However, membership of AAKF is required to participate.

To ensure that all participants are properly registered, we ask that the Regional Directors return the completed documents (with appropriate fees) before the deadline.

  • June 20: Arrival and registration
    • 4 pm - 7 pm: Hotel check-in and event registration. Event registration will also be available during the first day of camp, and at the hotel on Wednesday afternoon.
  • June 21: International Camp day 1
    • 8:45 am - 12 pm: Morning training session
    • 12 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch break
    • 2 pm - 5 pm: Afternoon training session
    • 5 pm - 6 pm: AAKF Board of Directors meeting
    • All competition participants need to check in by 6 pm on Wednesday, June 21th.
  • June 22: International Camp day 2
    • 8:15 am - 11:30 am: Morning training session
    • 11:30 am - 12:45 pm: Lunch break
    • 1 pm - 4 pm: Afternoon training session
  • June 23: International Camp day 3
    • 7:45 am - 11:45 am: Morning training session
    • 11:45 am - 12:45 pm: Lunch break
    • 1 pm - 3 pm: Afternoon training session
    • 3 pm - 5 pm:Rank and Technical Credentials examination
  • June 24: Tournament: Adult Kyu Ranks, Youth, and Nationals
    • 8 am - 2:00 pm: Youth, and Adult Kyu Ranks
    • 8 am - 2:00 pm: Adult Black Belt Nationals
    • 8:30 am - 9 am: Opening Ceremony
    • 1:30 pm - 2 pm: Medal Ceremony
    • 7:00 pm: Banquet at Guapo's Rotisserie (Registration required)
